#IMWAYR

This is my first time linking up with Jen at Teach Mentor Texts.

I recently experienced a loss in the family and it put a big dent in my reading ability and desire, but I did get a few things finished and have gotten a lot of books coming in to get my students ready for the end of the year poetry and drama coverage.

This story had me wanting to know as soon as I got finished with the first chapter. I was thinking the whole time how much my 4th graders would enjoy and relate to Kat's story in so many ways.
Kat is a typical young girl with problems like everyone else. She's been through her parents divorce, her best friend thinks she's trying to steal her crush, her play partner tries to kiss her, and even worse her mom is suffering severely with OCD. I had to know more, and couldn't stop reading: Was Kat's mom going to be okay and manage her OCD? Were Kat and her best friend going to make up? Was Kat going to kill it in the play?
The themes that intertwine throughout the story are definitely going to be mirrors and windows for a lot of kids. I can't wait to get it in students hands this summer!
This story is out due out August 22, 2017!

Zinnia and the Bees struck an amazing character chord for me. I loved the way Danielle had all of her characters grow so much in the story. All I could think was that it would be absolutely amazing to use as a mentor text for character traits. The themes in the story were some that are very relatable to a lot of young girls in the classroom as well as those boys who are in the classroom that are very into science/math/abnormal things. I love that this story provided humor as well as deep emotional issues that Zinnia had to come face to face with. Then there is the bees, oh the bees, I love what the bees show you and teach you throughout the story as well. All of it is so beautifully delivered and one that I know my 4th grade students will LOVE!
This story is out due out August 1, 2017!

I listen on Audible daily to and from work, I just started Soar and I already love it! We are diving into drama and reviewing poetry the next few weeks which is when we are starting The Capybara Conspiracy as a mentor text.

Our next picture book read aloud will be The Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors. I am so excited!
