It's that time of year in the book world... Time to analyze the past year's reading and set new goals! There have been so many favorites lists and books read lists floating around the interwebs and it has left me inspired to analyze my own reading! Not compare though, never compare! All reading is good reading and just because my friend read 30 books more than I did does NOT make my reading any less significant.
According to Goodreads, I read 121 books this year (this will go up by 1-2 as I am still reading and the year is not technically over....) My goal was 120, which was much higher than previous years. The reason for that is, I have been focusing on adding picture books to my reading life and in my classroom. I needed to make this a goal because I am not really a picture book person. I wish I was, and I see the HUGE value of them in *all* classrooms. However, I just find myself gravitating towards chapter books more often. This was why I decided to add PBs in my yearly goal. Accountability works, friends!
For my goal in 2018, I don’t think I will count picture books again. In my classroom, we are doing #classroombookaday, which I plan to continue so picture books will naturally be a part of my reading life. Therefore, I think my old goal of adding picture books on GR has already served its purpose.
In 2018 I hope to read 100 chapter books. Any kind. This is a big goal for me and I know I will have to make some changes if this is going to happen. In 2017 I read 72 chapter books, including all non-fiction. So, as you can see … bumping my goal from 72 chapter books read in 2017 to hopefully reading 100 in 2018 is quite the increase. It might be a tad ambitious, but I know I can do it if I make a few lifestyle changes (ahem, cough, putdownmyphone, cough cough).
So, without further ado, here is what I read in 2017!
